CBD (cannabidiol) is one of 113 cannabinoids or molecules found in the cannabis family plants. Unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), cannabidiol is a safe and non-addictive substance that endows marijuana and hemp with its robust therapeutic profiles. THC is another active phytocannabinoid that made marijuana famous for the “high” effect it produces on the nervous system.

What is the fuss about?

CBD is not another hype-generating notion. Although CBD is not a cure for COVID-19, it is certainly worth trying to use during the quarantine. This cannabinoid addresses anxiety and insomnia, quite common conditions occurring in the pandemic time.

There is also evidence that CBD is a good supplement that helps to manage various health conditions. Although cannabinoid benefits had long been overlooked, scientists have already begun rigorous studies on their effects. Today, CBD is treated as an addition or even an alternative to traditional medicines. For example, CBD potential in anxiety and stress control, as well as pain relief, has been demonstrated in the Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management journal.

CBD can positively influence an organism only in collaboration with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Initially, scientists found them only in the brain and nerves. Yet, in 2008, the researchers from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Indiana University, Bloomington proved that cannabinoid receptors are scattered throughout the body, including fat tissue, skin, immune cells, bone, pancreas, liver, heart, skeletal muscle, blood vessels, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract.

The function of ECS is to create homeostasis within the body and manage a wide range of processes, including pain, appetite, mood, memory, stress, metabolism, sleep, immune and reproductive functions.

If ECS stops functioning properly, it leads to a range of disorders — for example, anxiety, stress, arthritis, inflammation, nausea, epilepsy, and even cancer. In this case, CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids repair the damage since they are chemically similar to your body’s own ECS.

Eighty per cent of the New Yorkers who are arrested for marijuana are black or Latino, despite the fact that people of colour and whites use marijuana at roughly the same rates….
