Product details

For the Green Edition Whole Plant Extract, CBD Brothers used the Cannabis Sativa Whole Plant Extract containing more than 14% CBD/CBDA. The CBD is obtained using CO2 extraction technique from buds and flowers of the female plants which are cultivated under the sun. This process ensures that the CBD is high-quality and does not contain any impurities. Professional farmers across Europe cultivate this strain of cannabis.

What is CBD?

CBD was introduced to the health and wellness industry not too long ago. From then, its popularity has only continued to increase and has no intention of slowing down. It is talked about on mainstream media, social media, and even on the streets. Why did CBD become so popular, and what is it anyway? Well, CBD or cannabidiol is part of a group of compounds found in cannabis called phytocannabinoids. There are over 100 different phytocannabinoids. Other well-known phytocannabinoids are cannabigerol (CBG), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabinol (CBN). CBD became super famous when scientific research and anecdotal evidence showed that it has great potential in maintaining and improving health and wellness. Lots of people are using this compound for many different reasons and swear by its efficacy. Even though it is a cannabis compound, it does not have any psychoactive effects. This means that users will not get “stoned” when they ingest this compound.

What is THC?

As we have seen above, THC is also another phytocannabinoid. It is well-known for the “high” sensations resulting from recreational cannabis use. It is the compound responsible for the intoxicating properties of the cannabis plant. That is why it is still classified as a controlled substance in many parts of the world. However, taking the legal concentrations of THC will not get you high or intoxicated. Low concentrations of THC may even boost CBD’s properties. The legal and safe THC concentration in cannabis that is permitted in Europe and the US is 0.2% and 0.3% respectively.

How does CBD work?

The body is made up of a network of receptors through which CBD interacts with it. There are two types of these receptors called CB1 and CB2.  Also, the body naturally produces compounds called endocannabinoids that interact with these receptors to bring about changes in the internal environment. These receptors and the endocannabinoids are referred to collectively as the Endocannabinoid System or ECS. The receptors of the ECS are commonly located in the immune system, brain, and in the skin. Cannabinoids interact with the ECS to bring balance to the body’s internal environment. This process is known as homeostasis. CBD and THC have similar chemical formulas and functions to the endocannabinoids. That is why they can interact with the ECS receptors.

One of the main functions of the endocannabinoid system is to regulate the internal environment of the body through homeostasis. Homeostasis is the physiological process that occurs in the body to ensure a stable internal environment. It maintains the healthy and normal levels of substances such as glucose, ions, temperature and other compounds that are essential for the functioning of the body. Most often, we get sick when the systems that control homeostasis in the body stop working properly.

Due to the structural similarities that CBD shares with endocannabinoids, scientists suggest that CBD helps to augment and supplement the actions of the ECS. THC and CBD are also able to mimic the actions of endocannabinoids, by binding to their receptors to initiate a physiological response.

Full-spectrum, Broad-spectrum and CBD Isolate

It is essential to understand the meaning of spectrum in this context. Here, spectrum refers to the range of compounds found in the hemp plants. That is why CBD products on the market can be divided into three types - those containing full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, or CBD isolate.

Full-spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD can also be called whole-plant hemp extract. The hemp extract used to create the product contains a wide range of compounds found in hemp. Some of these valuable compounds include cannabinoids, terpenes, fats, and flavonoids. Many favour full-spectrum CBD because of its “entourage effect”. Scientists believe that CBD’s health potential is boosted in the presence of the other hemp compounds.

Even though a few hemp compounds have been eliminated to create this type of CBD, it still contains a variety of hemp compounds. Some manufacturers prefer to remove THC because of the legal and intoxication issues surrounding this compound. However, broad-spectrum CBD also possesses the entourage effect, although some argue that it is better and more potent with THC.

CBD isolate

CBD isolate or pure cannabidiol is at the other end of the spectrum. To create this type of CBD, the only cannabidiol is left in the final hemp extract. All the other compounds are removed during the extraction and refining process. CBD isolate does not possess the entourage effect since all the other compounds are removed. However, it still has many benefits of CBD, although it is not considered as potent.

Is CBD safe?

Yes, CBD is safe. Lots of research and trials have shown that it is safe for consumption. CBD was declared safe and non-toxic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2017. Among all the compounds found in hemp, only THC is known to have psychoactive effects associated with cannabis. If users stay within the legal limits of THC, they will not experience any intoxication. Some people have reported minor side effects such as headaches, nausea, stomach upset, and dizziness. These side effects are common in new users that start with a high dose of CBD. So, users are often advised to begin with small doses and then gradually increase.
