The founder's story
After his father was faced with some serious health issues, Mr Craig heard that CBD could potentially save his father. Developments leading to the discovery of CBD
The use of cannabis to promote good health is not a recent phenomenon. Cannabis has been used in traditional health remedies for many centuries. In 2700 B.C., a Chinese Emperor called Sheng Nung was documented using tea that's infused with cannabis to remedy symptoms of malaria, gout, and rheumatism. Later on in the 1800s, Queen Victoria of England is believed to have used cannabis to minimise her menstrual cramps. However, all this changed with the rise of modern medicine. The chronology of cannabis science investigations
In 1839, a researcher, Willam B. O'Shaughnessy from Ireland published a book investigating the therapeutic effects of cannabis. In his study, he explored the effects of cannabis and its potential medical applications. This publication stimulated researchers to become more interested in cannabis science.
After almost a century, a British researcher called Robert S. Cahn became the first to discover an individual cannabinoid. He presented the partial structure of Cannabinol (CBN) which he identified as fully formed later in 1940.
Two years later, another groundbreaking discovery was made by a chemist called Roger Adams. He was the first to isolate Cannabidiol (CBD). Furthermore, Roger Adams's research is understood to have influenced the discovery of another compound called Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
From 1963, a scientist called Dr Raphael Mechoulam and his team made a commitment to unveil the effects of the discovered cannabinoids. As they commenced their investigations, they found that THC was the phytocannabinoid that caused intoxication in cannabis. Without this substance, cannabis or cannabis-derived products would not make users "stoned".
Later in 1980, Dr Mechoulam began studying the applicability of CBD in the treatment of Epilepsy. The study emerged as a big success. This led to the invention of Epidiolex, a drug used to treat Epilepsy today.

Although more cannabinoids were discovered, and their general effects were revealed; Dr Mechoulam's passion drove him to dig deeper. He started another investigation to learn the mechanism of action of cannabis compounds in the human body. While doing so, he discovered that the human body produces chemicals that are similar to phytocannabinoids. These chemicals called endocannabinoids are part of what's called an endocannabinoid system.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
The endocannabinoid system is a biological system that's composed of a network of cannabinoid receptors and neurotransmitter substances known as endocannabinoids.
How does ECS work?
Endocannabinoids bind to the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors located in the central nervous system and all around the body. This interaction of endocannabinoids with the receptors produces signals required for the maintenance of good health.
